Personal Assistance Service for Persons with Disabilities

The purpose of the personal assistance service for persons with disabilities is to support independent living and inclusion in the community, while preventing social isolation.

The service is available to persons aged 15 and older who have profound or severe functional limitations related to mobility, vision, mental health conditions, or intellectual disabilities. In the case of persons with intellectual disabilities, those with moderate functional limitations are also eligible.

As the program aims to promote the social inclusion of persons with disabilities and support the exercise of their rights to education and employment, it is available to persons with disabilities aged 15 and older who are currently working or studying, or who provide written confirmation that they will begin working or studying within the next three months.

Scope of the Personal Assistance Service

The personal assistance service includes both personal care and assistance in overcoming environmental barriers, including those related to mobility and communication.

Any adult may serve as a personal assistant, including a family member, following discussions held during the Government session, provided they hold a certificate confirming the necessary knowledge and skills. To become a registered personal assistant, applicants must complete training and pass an assessment to obtain certification authorizing them to provide the service.
