The state continues to provide support to foster families to ensure the care and upbringing of children in difficult life circumstances. Foster care is one of the forms of alternative care for children, enabling them to exercise their right to live in a family environment.

Currently, 231 children are receiving care and upbringing in 127 foster families.

Citizens who permanently reside in the Republic of Armenia, are adults and meet the established eligibility criteria may become foster parents.

Foster parents receive remuneration from the state in the amount of the minimum monthly wage, as well as financial support for the care and upbringing of the child.

For the care and upbringing of children with disabilities or health conditions, children having trouble in upbringing, or children who have experienced psychological trauma, foster parents receive monthly remuneration for each child in the amount of the minimum monthly wage plus a 30% supplement, as well as financial support intended for the child’s care and upbringing.

The age difference between a foster parent and the foster child must be at least 18 years and no more than 50 years. At the time the child is placed in foster care, the foster parent must not be over 65 years of age.

To register as a foster parent, applicants should contact the regional administration of their place of residence (the Yerevan Municipality in Yerevan).
